About the Project

 They Served For Us...

   They Served For Us is a memorial project originally created by students from the Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute (OSCVI). Following the amalgamation of OSCVI and West Hill Secondary School, students at the new Owen Sound District Secondary School (OSDSS) have continued with the project. The main purpose and goal of They Served For Us is to honour and commemorate the men and women of Grey County who served and sacrificed in the military conflicts of the past century.

   Memory Markers

    The Memory Markers project - a branch of They Served For Us - aims to publicly highlight local individuals who served during some of the notable battles during the First and Second World Wars. In the fall of 2016, five young Grey County soldiers who were killed during the Battle of the Somme (1916) were memorialized with these markers.
